Soulless Rocks is a tongue-in-cheek reference to a discussion I had with another photographer about the merits of Ansel Adam's work. This gentlemen, whose work I greatly admire, commented that he didn't understand why anyone would want to photograph something that didn't have a soul! To him, photography is all about capturing the essence of people's souls, and he does a wonderful job of it.
So rocks and mountains don't have souls, but I certainly believe they have incredible stories to tell. Since moving out West, I have become obsessed with photographing geological formations while pondering the forces that took place to create such magnificence.
