An easy fire road trail up to the summit of Palomar Mountain, where a half mile uphill hike will take you to the HighPoint Lookout Tower. The southern California wildfires of October 2007 broke out while we were on the trail, and this area was later evacuated as the fire hugged the edge of the trail. It is heartbreaking to realize that these are the very last photos taken of this area in its pristine glory. I imagine it will take quite some time before the landscape returns to this wild and beautiful condition.
