CareyPhotography > The interior of the tufa dwelling at Scouts Cove in the Mojave Desert.
CareyPhotography > A shelter dug into one of the tufa domes at Scouts Cove, Opal Mountain. Scouts Cove was a fire opal mining site near the turn of the 20th century, financed by the Tiffany Jewelry Company of New York. There are two holes in the ceiling of the dwelling, one for the fireplace and the other undoubtedly for ventilation.
CareyPhotography > A large natural sea cave below the sandstone bluffs of La Jolla, California. Brown pelicans and cormorants are frequently seen resting on top of the bluff.
CareyPhotography > The view above as seen from inside the lava tube off Aikens Mine Road, Mojave National Preserve
CareyPhotography > After climbing down the ladder you can climb down to the left and work your way through the lava tube if you dare. Skylights provide shafts of light. The section of tube to the right has been totally caved in.
CareyPhotography > Looking up from inside the lava tube
CareyPhotography > A couple of "skylights" in the lava tube
CareyPhotography > While scanning the cliffs for sheep I spotted this cave high above.
The colors of the rock and plant life in Anza-Borrego provide the perfect natural camouflage for the sheep; they are almost impossible to spot unless they are moving.
