Salt marsh reflects the colors of sunset while a geothermal plant releases steam in the background in Calipatria on the shores of the Salton Sea, California
The Salton Sea is a Known Geothermal Resource Area. CalEnergy has several geothermal plants which produce energy solely from naturally occuring geothermal steam. Deep wells tap into superheated water thousands of feet below the earth's crust and the steam powers turbines which produce electricity. The electricity is then sold to third parties to help power the grid.
