Coyote Flats and Funnel Lake - Sierra Nevada - August 2008
Weekend offroad trip to Coyote Flats and Funnel Lake in the high Sierra mountains near Bishop, California. We camped at 10,300 feet and ventured up to almost 11,500 feet. Not too many photos from this trip because we had 60 mph winds gusting to 80 mph in camp, and gusts to almost 100 mph on the ridges. Most of the photos are from the start of the trail when the storm was beginning to brew.
You can read about this trip on my blog here.

Big Sierra peaks at the top of the Coyote Ridge Trail just under 11,500 feet. The treeline (alpine biotic zone) in the eastern Sierra is at 12,500 feet, 3,000 feet higher than it is in the western Sierra due to less preciptation. At 11,500 I am in the subalpine zone, which begins at 10,500 feet.
